How to Create Great Blog Comments
If you are going to take the time to post a comment on a blog, why not use the space to your advantage? When you work online everything you put out there paints a picture of who you are or what your business is all about. Why not make your blog comments the best they can be? If you make some profits along the way by commenting on blogs, even better!
Before you hastily write a comment on a blog, think about why you are doing it. You don’t have to post a comment. If you want to, what’s the purpose? Why are you taking time out of your busy day to comment on this particular blog?
Is it simply to let the blogger know you appreciated the post?
Is it to get the attention of the blog readers?
Is it to make business connections?
Is it in response to another comment?
Perhaps you want to state your agreement or disapproval of the post?
Is it to drive traffic back to your site or your own blog?
Determining ‘why’ you are taking time out of your life to comment on a blog can go far in helping you decide what to say in your comment.
You should keep blog comments respectful, fairly short and they should get right to the point. Blog comments aren’t the place to write essays or personal opinion pieces. If you do happen to have a different spin on what a blogger has posted—or if you really have a lot to say on the topic—put all of that up on your own sites. Then, write out your comment and let the blogger and readers know that if they wish to learn more about why you feel the way you do, they can do so at your site.
Think carefully before you post a link to your own site in the comment boxes on blogs. Some comment boxes have an area where you can post your link, others do not. If the blog makes it available for you to post your link, by all means do it. However, if it does not and you opt to post your link in the comment box itself, make sure the comment you make is truly useful and/or engaging to the topic at hand—otherwise, you’re comment and link will just be looked at and considered spam. In regards to the link, make sure it directs to something on your site that is relevant to the topic. Having the link go directly to your home page isn’t a good idea.
Above all, if you are trying to get your name out there, drive traffic to your sites and earn a good online reputation, know what you’re talking about. Don’t ever make any false claims or give misleading information. All this does is hurt your credibility. Lastly, proofread your comments before you post them. Bad grammar and misspelled words undermines your reputation.

You’re right about considering the reason that you want to leave a comment on a blog. I think one reason is to let the blog owner know that you appreciate what he had to say on the particular subject. However, you need to expound on that because most will consider it spam if you just say, “Nice Post” or “Good comments” You need to let the blog owner know why you think his comments are good.

There are many reasons why someone might post a comment, some of which may not be as good as others (example: simply for SEO backlinks). But you’re right, comments should be well thought out like a blog post.
I like Mike’s comment above, that’s a great idea to share what you think about someone else’s post.
Good points about commenting on blog posts. As you mentioned, use a backlink to your blog with a related post of your and you can do that with the commentluv plugin you are using. It shows your latest link, but you can choose which link you want to use by clicking the down arrow and choosing the post you want.
Keep up the good work!

I like it when people comment on my blog. It lets me know that people were there. I like to blog on others to provide the same type of support to others as well as to encourage people to visit my blogs as well.
